Chiral trabeated metabeam for low-frequency multimode wave mitigation via dual-bandgap mechanism

Abstract An elastic wave in a physical beam naturally possesses many modes, such as flexural, longitudinal, and torsional. Therefore, suppression of all possible vibration modes has been rarely achieved beam-shaped periodic systems, especially at low frequencies. Here we present low-frequency complete bandgap mechanism by overlapping the flexural with longitudinal-torsional bandgap. To strengthen general framework, enforce an extra degree freedom (rotational torsional-spring) on spring-mass system for coupled (longitudinal-torsional) modes. The rotational stiffness provides bandgap, whereas torsional yields coupled-mode meet these prerequisites modeling, chiral trabeated metabeam is conceived, which allows to be suppressed Apart from single-mode mitigation, our work route implementing fashion, potentially enabling use chirality structures.
